Great Anaplan for FP&A model design boils down to three core models; the actuals model, consolidation model and archive model.

Actuals model -

Our actuals model is central to our record to report process. It ingests our record data, transforms it into useful information relevant to Anaplan and presents it in our reporting.

Consolidation model -

Our consolidation model brings together all our relevant forecast outputs, mapping them into our reporting dimensions before integrating them into our final reports.

Forecast data exists across what we refer to as modelling cohorts. A cohort is any unique combination of dimensions used to model and forecast performance. The consolidation model pulls these disparate cohorts together through a sequential consolidation process to prepare them for mapping into a final report.

As the number of modelling cohorts increases the larger the consolidation model becomes.

Archive model -

Our archive model stores our prior forecasts and scenarios data. It is isolated and fully coded against all relevant dimensions as per our actuals and consolidation models. We can archive both output and input data. Multiple archive lists are created with each being coded as per the dimensions used to create the original data. Archive data is then retrieved and integrated into our reporting by mapping across these coded structures.

These models are common to all our model designs and essential to our model design philosophy. They can be developed at pace and deployed as a rapid proof of concept during the very early stages of a project. This ensures we are able to demonstrate significant value straight out of the gates.

Our actuals model takes already structured data and makes it relevant for Anaplan modelling.

Our consolidation model takes disparate forecast data and brings it together, removing irrelevant dimensions and embellishing it so as to enhance the reporting and end user experience.

Our archive model efficiently and securely stores our structured data, keeping it isolated from the live model and therefore maintaining its integrity.
